Smulders Towers B.V.

Towering reliability for the production of wind turbine towers.

Over 20 years ago, at a time when wind energy was still taking baby steps, Smulders Group started the production of wind turbine towers in the Dutch town of Rheden. Commissioned by Vestas, almost all towers placed in the Benelux countries were produced by Smulders Group. During the following years this production was placed with one of Smulders’ Polish establishments, which is completely set up for this. This has helped Smulders Group establish a respectable reference list of which all major turbine producers are a part; the proof of a reliable and trustworthy partner.

This experience, as well as that with the foundations for offshore wind turbines, has resulted in a production line for offshore towers. Characteristic for these towers is the fact that they have to be supplied in segments as large as possible, often weighing over 200 tons and measuring 6 meters in diameter and 40 meters long. The production facility in Antwerp is perfectly suited for this and has been set up to produce wind turbine towers which comply with the requirements and wishes of the customer. The current production capacity is 100 offshore towers per year. After the surface treatment and final assembly of secondary components like platforms, access ladders, cable tubes and wiring, the offshore towers are ready to be transported per ship from Antwerp and the onshore towers per truck from Poland.

Within the division Wind turbine constructions, Smulders Towers B.V. is responsible for the complete delivery of on- and offshore towers.
